Monstera is a genus of 22 species of flowering plants in the family Araceae. Native to tropical regions of the Americas, members of the genus are identified by unusual leaves with natural holes.
Monstera are herbs or evergreen vines. Commonly grown indoors as houseplants, the best-known representative of the genus, Monstera deliciosa, is also prized for its edible fruit that tastes like a mixture of banana and pineapple. The fruit is a cluster of white berries, edible in some species, but which takes a year to ripen out of its poisonous state.
